60 to 70-hour weeks, stress, deadlines and occasional all-nighters were the norm.

Hi, my name is Steve Lauri and for over 15 years I've owned a small advertising business in Southern California. Actually, it might be more accurate to say, it has owned ME! Long hours, deadlines, stress and occasional all-nighters were the norm. That’s fine when you’re fresh out of college and bullet proof, but when you’re in your mid-forties—I don’t think so!

I did OK money-wise, but when the 9-11 attacks occurred, my business (as did most of the economy) really suffered. My clients tightened their budgets and new business was not to be found. Over the next six months, I accumulated over $40K in credit card debt.
